fashion soup

Ruffles, puffs, stripes, and tights.

Sounds like a good combination to me.

70s ruffle blouse : vintage, estate sale
50s high waist shorts : vintage, estate sale
tights : forever 21
shoes : steve madden, thrifted

Here I combined vintage 50s and 70s, polyester and cotton, long sleeves and short pants, storebought and thrifted.

Fashion soup is what I call this.

I could eat it everyday.

fall finale

I've been trying to work this leaf and acorn print cotton top into my fall wardrobe rotation all season, but I just didn't know what to pair it with.

Finally I tried these vintage wool trousers (and yes, for some reason they are trousers and not pants).

Perfect.

scarf : vintage, estate sale
novelty print cotton blouse : vintage, estate sale
wool trousers : vintage, estate sale
shoes : steve madden, thrifted

It's not officially winter yet.

I managed to squeak it in.

Barely.

I love, love, love vintage novelty prints.           The perfect high waist wool trousers.

kinda like a zebra

It would be nice if everything were black and white, wouldn't it?

No shades of gray.

No love/hate relationships.

No white lies.

No fuzzy math.

Those zebras got something going on.

sweater: the limited, from years ago

Zebra chevron.
How cool is that?

my goal = no goal

I've heard that it helps to make a goal publicly. You have a better chance of sticking to it.

Seems to have the opposite effect on me. Haha. Now back to blogging. :)

This is my favorite vintage dress that I own. I have a thing for novelty prints, and the fit is just perfect.
 Cowboys and Indians!

A handmade dress. And check out the handmade belt!

brown and gray

Hello, again.

Here's an experiment in brown and gray. I was inspired by the 50s dress I wore the other day.

I like how it turned out.

Now that I'm feeling better (finally!), I want to start posting again on a regular basis.

So here's my goal: Post everyday for 21 days.

hat : banana republic, from years ago
white blouse : vintage, estate sale
vest : vintage, estate sale
pants : refuge, thrifted

They say it takes 21 days to create a habit. We'll see. :)

Day One - check.

looking at the bright side

So bummed I missed out on my favorite holiday yesterday. Came down with a cold. :(

Which is not why I look so sad and pensive in these photos from last week.

I just have a hard time looking into camera without having a squinty face from the sun.

So there you have it. No cute costume. (I was trying to decide between a flapper, sailor, or cowgirl...)

scarf : vintage, estate sale
cotton shirt : vintage, estate sale
chiqle jeans : thrifted
steve madden shoes : thrifted

Just me avoiding looking at the bright side. ;)

What did you get up to on Halloween?

top knot-ch fall day

Now this is what I'm talking about.

A little sun, a little chill. I'm a happy girl.

I love the brown/gray combo in this 50s dress. I want to explore this more...

Happy Thursday to you. :)

out of the ordinary

Blog a week. Take a month off. Not a bad gig.

This isn't so much an outfit post, although I have been wearing clothes in the past month. Just not taking pictures.

I just wanted to show you a little glimpse of where I live. (I'll give you one guess.)

Sunflowers grow like weeds around here, and are treated as such.

But to me these wild, unruly weed patches hold more beauty than any manicured lawn ever could.

Here's to being able to see the extraordinary in the ordinary. Let's do it more often.

transition

Well hello there, fall. I've been waiting.

Go ahead. Bring on some not too hot, not too cold, but just right.

scarf - vintage, estate sale
shirt - Ross
pants - Charlotte Russe, thrifted

Let's do this thing.

Happy first day of fall, everyone.

so long summer

These pictures were taken last week, when it was much warmer than it is today.

shirt: vintage, estate sale
pants: Wet Seal, from years ago
sandals: Seychilles

I can't say that I'll miss summer. It was record breaking.

I'm not about breaking records when it comes to heat.

So long summer.

(Props to my little photographer. I have a tripod now, so she is relieved of her duties. She does a great job, but she gets bored quick. :)

before & after

I love everything about this 50s cotton shirt, but I haven't been able to decide how to wear it and what to wear it with.

I tried this.

Not very blogworthy. So, a few tweaks later...

And voila. Much better. I love this tying the shirt at the waist thing I've seen people do, but I've been reluctant to try it. I try to spare people from my pregnancy stretch marks when I can. But why, oh why, haven't I discovered high waist pants sooner!?! Now I can show a little skin again. :)

Shirt: Vintage, Estate Sale
Shorts: Forever 21, thrifted
Shoes: Rocket Dogs

And I put some victory curls in my hair just for fun. Much better.

I love before and after pics. Sometimes getting dressed in the morning is a process. Have a lovely Wednesday, everyone!

don't think, just do

I've been meaning to start this blog for a while now, but things keep getting in the way. It's time to stop overthinking it and just do it. :)

As I tend to get dressed everyday, and most days I dress consciously, I intend for this to be mostly a style blog. I've been following some style blogs for about a year now, and I've realized it's not the vain thing I once thought it was. But I'm sure I'll also add in some thoughts from time to time about food, philosophy, and fun things to do.

Here's an outfit I wore last week.

Bear with me on the photos. Waiting to buy a tripod was one of my excuses to not start blogging yet.

My photographer is turning 4 soon. She did a good job, though, didn't she?

Dress: Vintage, Estate Sale
Belt: Vintage, Borrowed from another dress
Shoes: Steve Madden, thrifted
There. That wasn't so bad. What was I putting this off for? See you all tomorrow.

(I'd love to hear comments and feel free to share blogging tips. :)
